Luxury Style: Mixing Dressy with Casual

How to mix authentic, timeless luxury with casual looks.

In every outfit I style, I'm inspired to include texture, juxtaposition, bling, pop of color, and a fab bag.

1. Texture

I used a lot of layers and texture in styling these pieces together.

The raised texture of the vintage Etro chocolate velvet vest, set against a flat white cotton blouse, and a draped vintage Hermes silk scarf gives a multidimensional effect.

Then, instead of stopping there, I opened the gold buttons at the vest to show the gold hardware of vintage Hermes H leather belt

See a couple more examples of how iconic women of fashion, Sophia Loren & Victoria Beckham, have used the same style.

The famous Italian actress, style icon, and beauty queen, Sophia Loren chose to accessorize with an Hermes Scarf for a more vintage look.

For a modern look, Victoria BeckhamEnglish businesswoman, fashion designer, model and singer, also known as Posh Spice, added BOTH a scarf and Hermes Red 35cm Birkin to tie together her fabulous hip luxury style.

2. Juxtaposition

When choosing to wear velvet and silk, most people consider the fabrics more appropriate for dressier or holiday occasions.

I liked the juxtaposition of pairing the dressy, velvet vest, with silk Hermes Scarf and casual jeans.

Taking a nod from the men, using the vest and men's size Rolex, while pairing it with dainty diamond bangles like these white or yellow gold Love Bracelets from Cartier, or these two, a diamond and sapphire yellow gold, & the Etoil bangle bracelet, 18K Gold Diamond from Tiffany.

3. Bling

A little bling is always a good thing in my book.

The flash of the men's Vintage Daytona Yellow Gold Rolex mixed with Cartier and Diamond bangles (see above) are the perfect bling for to pair with jeans, making this a laid back, juxtaposed mix of luxurious and casual look, perfect for either men or women.

Elle Macpherson is an Australian model, businesswoman, television host and actress.

She is probably best known for her record five cover appearances for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

I liked her best in her appearances on my cult-favorite show, Friends

She epitomizes femininity yet chose to wear a men's size, yellow gold Daytona.
The most famous star to wear the Rolex Daytona is cool guy Paul Newman, the one who made it famous.
In 2008, upon Paul Newman's passing, California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger said:

"Paul Newman was the ultimate cool guy who men wanted to be like and women adored. He was an American icon, a brilliant actor, a Renaissance man and a generous but modest philanthropist. He entertained millions in some of Hollywood's most memorable roles ever, and he brightened the lives of many more, especially seriously ill children, through his charitable works. Paul was one of a kind. The beloved film star will be missed by a world of fans and admirers."

4 & 5. Pop of Color / Fab Bag

I chose Red as my pop of color. You can see it here in the bag, as well as the bit of red showing in the scarf.

I'm not alone, either.

Stylish American actress, film producer and former fashion model, Katherine Heigl,  chose a 35cm Hermes Red Birkin as her pop of color and fab bag, all in one.

She show's here you can keep it simple, and still incorporate multiple rules into the same piece.

Monday Muse: Elizabeth Taylor

Monday Muse: Elizabeth Taylor

The Taylor-Burton Diamond, first worn at Princess Grace's 40th Birthday Party.

The Krupp Diamond

Elizabeth Taylor: where do I even start? She was talented, beautiful, and crazy. I could go on for pages about her unbelievable personal life, and career, but lets get down to business, her jewelry collection. I would gladly wed and divorce eight times too, if I could guarantee the Elizabeth Taylor Package, which includes Van Cleef aand Arpels, Bulgari, Cartier, Ruser, David Webb, Tiffany and Co, Harry Winston, and quite a few custom pieces as well. Most well known from her collection was her 33 carat square diamond ring from husband Richard Burton, known as the Krupp Diamond. She wore this nearly everyday, especially in her later years. The most impressive piece however was the 68 carat Burton-Taylor Diamond, given to her by Richard Burton. This was the worlds first glimpse at a million dollar diamond and it was given to Taylor at the height of her fame. She and Burton were the most well known couple in the world at the time. After their divorce, however, Taylor auctioned off the diamond and with the proceeds, built a hospital in Botswana. Showing that sometimes, spite for your ex can benefit others. Teach us your ways Elizabeth Taylor!

Antique Jewelry, Fine Watches and Chanel in Vail

Betteridge hosted a fabulous sparkling evening of taste and libations with a treasure chest filled with antique jewelery, fine watches and one of my all time favorites...Chanel. Our host, Captain Hook aka Mike Manjos, opened the vault of antique diamond, sapphire, emerald, ruby, one of a kind jewelry pieces that
dazzled the pirate themed party in Vail Village. We sipped on wine and enjoyed amazing bites  in the midst of Van Cleef, Cartier, Rolex, Patek Phillipe, and Panerai with the Karrs, our fabulous Greek friends from Chicago and the Brunos, our favorite Italian Vail locals.  The highlight of my night was a in depth conversation with Courtney the international world traveling Chanel watch expert in town from
Chicago with a case full of Chanel diamond encrusted watches. We discussed our mutual love of CoCo Chanel's time capaul apartment in Paris where we both were in awe of her timeless style that still
prevails today. I learned about the silver boxes Chanel showcased on her coffee table, gifts of the Duke of Westminster. They were as beautiful on the inside as they were on the outside, expressing his thoughts  of Chanel.  This is true of Chanel's designs, specifically, her jackets,  as beautifully on the inside as the outside with luxurious lining materials and chain detailing. To me, that is one of the true signs of a designer who looks at their pieces as a form of art.  Thank you to Betteridge for hosting such an enchanting evening surrounded by beautiful baubles and a memorable group of guests.

A Few of Our Favorite Things

Fraulien Maria had the right idea listing off all of her favorite things to the children she nannied in "The Sound of Music". They had no excuse to get her anything she didn't want for Christmas!
We figured we'd list a few of our favorite things as of late to ensure that Santa brings us exactly what we want this year. We've all been good for the most part...
Feel free to pass this along to your hubby, boyfriend or your fabulous group of girlfriends. You never know... they might still need ideas!
*To the tune of "My favorite Things"*

Cartier diamonds and Chanel in black boxes
Bulgari earrings and Rolex watches
Tiffany jewelry all tied up with string,
These are a few of our favorite things.
Louis Vuitton luggage, Hermes handbags,
Van Cleef & Arpels...

We simply remember our favorite things...
and we suddenly feel so swell!
Happy Holidays!
